What Does Banding Actually Look Like?

Banding in printing isn’t one single defect — it shows up in a few distinct patterns, and each pattern points to a different cause. Matching your print to one of these before you start adjusting settings saves a lot of wasted troubleshooting time.

The pattern itself is the diagnostic clue. A single missing line at a fixed position almost always means a nozzle problem. A repeating pattern that shifts with print speed or resolution points toward calibration. Check Ink Levels & Air Bubbles
Before anything else, confirm each ink tank is at least half full and visually check the ink lines for air bubbles. Low ink and trapped air both produce the same symptom — faded or missing bands that repeat — and neither one is a printhead problem.

Print the built-in nozzle check pattern.
