DTF Supplies

Ink, Film & Powder —
The Complete DTF Trio

Your DTF printer is only as good as the supplies running through it. Huedrift ink, film, and powder are matched to Epson R1390 and L1800 printheads — the same heads in every Huedrift machine.

What You Need

Three Supplies. One Complete Transfer.

DTF printing requires ink, film, and powder in every single print — they're not optional add-ons. Each one plays a specific role that the others can't replace.

Matched for Epson R1390 & L1800 Printheads

Huedrift supplies are formulated specifically for the printheads used in all Huedrift printers. Using incompatible ink or film is the most common cause of printhead clogging, color shift, and failed transfers — and it voids your hardware warranty. See which printer these supplies work with →

Step 1 — Ink

DTF Ink

CMYK + White pigment ink designed for Epson DTF printheads. White ink prints as the underbase layer — without it, designs won't show up on dark fabric. White ink requires gentle shaking before each use to prevent pigment settling.

Step 2 — Film

DTF Film

PET transfer film is the surface the ink prints onto. Film coating quality determines edge sharpness, how evenly powder adheres, and how cleanly the film peels after pressing. We carry two options — standard and luminous glow.

Step 3 — Powder

DTF Powder

Hot-melt adhesive powder is what permanently bonds the ink to fabric. Applied to wet ink immediately after printing, then cured in the oven. Particle size and tack determine adhesion strength, wash durability, and hand feel on the finished garment.

How They Work Together

Ink → Film → Powder → Transfer

Every DTF print goes through the same four steps. Each supply is used in sequence — skip one and the transfer won't bond to the fabric.

1

Print onto Film

Ink is printed onto PET transfer film — CMYK layers first, then white ink as an underbase layer for dark fabric.

Ink + Film
2

Apply Powder

While the ink is still wet, hot-melt adhesive powder is sprinkled evenly over the surface. Excess is shaken off.

3

Cure in Oven

The powdered film goes into a curing oven at 320–340°F. The powder melts and bonds permanently to the ink layer.

Heat Press Transfer

The cured film is pressed onto the garment. After 10–15 seconds, peel the film and the design stays on the fabric.

Storage & Handling

Keep Your Supplies in Peak Condition

DTF supplies degrade faster than most people expect when stored incorrectly. Follow these guidelines to protect your investment.

🖨️

DTF Ink

Store sealed at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Shelf life: 6–12 months unopened. Shake white ink gently before every use — white pigment settles within hours and can cause uneven underbase if not remixed.

🎞️

DTF Film

Keep rolls in the original packaging until use. Store upright in a cool, dry location — humidity causes the film coating to absorb moisture, which leads to ink spreading and powder clumping on the surface. Avoid storing near heating vents.

🫙

Hot-Melt Powder

Moisture is the enemy — even mild humidity causes powder to clump, producing uneven adhesion and stiff hand feel on finished transfers. Always seal the container immediately after use and store in a dry cabinet or airtight bag between sessions.

Common Questions

DTF Supplies FAQ

Do I need to buy ink, film, and powder together?
Yes — all three work together in sequence and must be compatible with each other. The ink prints onto the film, the powder bonds to the wet ink, and the curing oven melts the powder before heat pressing onto fabric. Missing any one component means the transfer won't work. Think of them as a matched set, not three independent products.
Are Huedrift DTF supplies compatible with non-Huedrift printers?
Huedrift ink and film are optimized for Epson R1390 and L1800 printheads — the same heads used in all Huedrift machines. They may work with other Epson-based DTF printers that use the same printhead models, but compatibility is not guaranteed for third-party machines with different printhead specifications. Using incompatible ink is the most common cause of printhead clogging.
How long does DTF ink last once opened?
Typically 6–12 months when stored sealed, away from direct sunlight and temperature extremes. CMYK inks are relatively stable. White ink is more sensitive — the pigment settles quickly and must be gently shaken before each use. If white ink has been sitting unused for more than a week, shake the bottle thoroughly for 1–2 minutes before printing to re-suspend the pigment.
How much powder do I need per roll of film?
Approximately 200–300g per 328ft roll, depending on design coverage density. Full-bleed prints use significantly more powder than small chest logo designs. Buying the larger size option gives you enough for 3–4 rolls with buffer for testing and waste reduction. Unused powder keeps indefinitely if stored sealed in a dry environment.
What's the difference between standard film and luminous glow film?
The DTF PreTreat Roll Film (13"×328' — $169.99) is the standard choice for everyday production — suitable for all garment colors, predictable results, and compatible with any DTF design. The Luminous Glow Film (12"×328' — $264.99) produces designs that glow in the dark, making it ideal for novelty apparel, event merchandise, or products that need to stand out at night. Both use the same powdering and curing process.
Can I use DTF supplies from other brands with my Huedrift printer?
Technically possible, but not recommended. Third-party inks that are not formulated for Epson R1390/L1800 printheads carry a higher risk of clogging, color inconsistency, and white ink settling issues. Film from other brands may have different coatings that affect powder adhesion and peel characteristics. Using non-Huedrift supplies may also affect your warranty coverage. If you want to test alternatives, do so in small quantities before committing to a full roll or bulk ink order.
